Stage 3 of the CISMA process involved clinicians providing their opinions on which descriptive terms they use, their definition of the terms and the application of the scapulothoracic position and movement descriptors.

How were the descriptors chosen?
A review of the published literature pertaining to scapulothoracic position and movement was undertaken. From this a list of scapulothoracic position and movement descriptors was compiled.

Why were they been chosen in this way?
It is important that the results of the CISMA project and the subsequent assessment approach stands up to scientific scrutiny. The descriptors were therefore identified using a reproducible methodology.

Why were some of the terms unfamiliar?
The terms were derived from the published literature covering a diverse mix of clinical and scientific disciplines. This meant that some terms may be unfamiliar. In the questionnaire there were a total of 77 terms which for administrative reasons were divided into 2 sections: (i) terms defined according to biomechanical and/or anatomical references and (ii) terms which use descriptive terminology, classifications or tests.

Is the questionnaire still live?
The questionnaire will remain accessible for a short while longer so that CISMA members who have previously been issued with a link to the questionnaire and would still like to provide their opinions are able to do so. However no new links to the questionnaire are now being issued.
